I'm really really tired and am going to go to bed early, but I'll just say a few things.
One prediction off the movies I'm pretty sure will be amazing post is officially (official by me) correct.
Funny People was a really good movie. Not a typical Sandler or Rogan film at all. It had some crude humor and some hilariously great moments and lines, but overall it was closer to a drama than a comedy. And a good drama at that. Adam Sandler was definitely playing an alternative version of himself, but how alternate was it? I'd be curious to know. I'm guessing prospective actors/actresses/comedians will love the heck out of the movie.
The film is a little long though. Having said that, I'm not sure what they could have cut out. They could have cut out some of the useless comedy moments, but those were quite indearing and spiced the film up, so no. I'm really not sure what they could have cut.
Bottom line - if you don't mind R-Rated humor and would like a thoughtful story about friends, fame, love, death, and yes, comedy, then go see this movie.
Oh, and the first scene of the movie is actually a home video of Sandler back in the early 90s. He and the director (Judd Apatow) used to be roomies in New York City when both were just starting their careers, and they loved making prank calls. I get the idea that their relationship back then is a huge reason why this movie was made.
Potential based on Preview: 8/10
Actual movie: 8.5/10
Okay, that's it, maybe some sudoku and reading and then sleep. Goodnight.
